The conference will focus on innovative methods, models, and technologies for shaping future cities and regions. Key topics include AI and machine learning for urban analysis, new simulation methods, sustainable transitions in ecological, energy, and economic systems, and the development of Smart, Safe, and Sustainable (3S) cities.

S_09 - Impact Assessment of Nature Based Solutions in Cities: Theoretical, Methodological and Practical Perspectives
ORGANIZERS: Stanganelli Marialuce (University of Naples), Torrieri Francesca (Polytechnic of Milan), La Rosa Daniele (University of Catania), and Grimaldi Michele (University of Salerno).
This Session aims to explore theoretical frameworks, methodological tools, and practical applications related to the impact assessment of NbS in urban areas. It promotes a multidimensional perspective capable of capturing both positive and negative effects. Contributions are invited that address the development of metrics and indicators for ecological performance, social well-being, and economic outcomes. Particular emphasis is placed on case studies of NbS implementation, both successful and unsuccessful, to better understand how these interventions interact with urban processes such as climate adaptation, urban flooding, the heat island effect, biodiversity conservation, and the pursuit of spatial equity. Such cases will also shed light on circumstances in which the costs of implementing NbS may outweigh their expected benefits.
